Lilli Lowenhar

Ceramicist and 3D Multimedia Artist

Hair Raku Vessels

My work explores the transient quality of human touch on clay. I seek to imbue the human experience into mediums that are predominantly done by machine, going back to a time focused on artisanry. I add features, often nods to history, bridging the realms of craft and fine art. Furthermore, I sometimes aim to immortalize people by adding humanistic features to everyday pieces. I want my work to be functional, to last, and to be passed down generationally.

I find that we have a lot of love and sentiment for objects that are used within our daily lives. We remember people based on the things they have touched or used. Having mass-produced objects takes away from this attitude and makes it sterile. Owning and utilizing an object made with both artistic value and love in mind is exceptionally important to me, and furthers the importance of the objects we use in our daily lives.
